Mortgage protection

Keep the house in the family.

Mortgage protection is life insurance sized to your home loan, so your family can pay off the mortgage or keep making payments if you pass away.

How it works

Coverage matched to your mortgage.

Mortgage protection is usually a term or permanent life policy with a death benefit that lines up with your loan balance and term. The benefit is paid to your family, not the bank, so they decide how to use it.

Paid to your family

The death benefit goes to your beneficiaries, who can pay off the loan or keep paying it.

Matched to your loan

Coverage amount and length can line up with your mortgage balance and term.

Optional living benefits

Some policies include benefits for critical, chronic, or terminal illness.

Questions

Common questions.

Is mortgage protection the same as PMI?

No. Private mortgage insurance (PMI) protects your lender if you stop paying. Mortgage protection life insurance protects your family and pays them, not the lender.

I got a letter about mortgage protection. Is that from my lender?

Usually not. Those letters typically come from insurance agencies using public mortgage records. We are not affiliated with any lender.

How much coverage do I need?

Most people start with their remaining loan balance. Some add extra to cover other debts or a few years of living expenses.

Do I need a medical exam?

It depends on your age, health, and the amount of coverage. Some policies don't require an exam.
